Modern subjects are where a matched paint earns its money, because the reference photographs are in colour, plentiful and merciless. The New Iraqi Army's fleet, rebuilt after 2003 from American, Russian and locally modified stock, is a good example: the vehicles came from everywhere but were finished in one recognisable sand, so that single tone is what ties an otherwise mismatched column together on a model shelf. Approximate it and every vehicle in the collection looks slightly wrong at once.
The AFV label marks the colours AK has matched specifically for military vehicles, across different armies and different periods, against official references where they exist. The 3rd Generation formula is non toxic, very highly pigmented, and formulated to airbrush cleanly when thinned instead of clogging, while still covering properly under a brush. The cap carries the colour so the bottle is easy to find.
