AK Interactive: 3G MERDC Sand (FS30277)
$4.99
An AFV range acrylic matched to Federal Standard 30277, the sand tone of the US MERDC camouflage system.
MERDC was the US Army's answer to the problem that one paint scheme cannot suit every landscape. Instead of a single camouflage it defined a set of patterns, each mixing four tones chosen for a particular terrain and season, so the same vehicle could be repainted for desert, winter or temperate use. That makes the individual tones almost useless to guess at, because their job is to sit in a precise relationship to the other three in the pattern. Matched to FS 30277, this is the sand element, and getting it right is what makes the pattern read.
The AFV label marks the colours AK has matched to official FS and RAL references. The 3rd Generation formula is non toxic, very highly pigmented, and made to airbrush cleanly when thinned rather than clogging, while covering properly under a brush. The cap carries the colour.
