The foundation tone for painting wood, from AK Interactive's AFV range.
Wood turns up on far more military models than people expect: rifle stocks and tool handles, the decking on a landing craft, crates and ammunition boxes on a tank's engine deck, the pioneer tools strapped to its hull. Painting them all the same flat brown is what makes a stowage load look like a toy. This is the base for doing it properly, a mid brown to lay down first and then work over with washes, streaks and a dry brush so the grain appears. The word base in the name means exactly that: it is the starting point, not the finished colour.
The AFV label marks the colours AK has matched specifically for military vehicle subjects. The 3rd Generation formula is non toxic, very highly pigmented, and made to airbrush cleanly when thinned rather than clogging, while covering well under a brush. The cap shows the colour.
