AK Interactive: 3G IDF Sand Grey 1970s-1980s
The sand grey worn by Israeli armour through the 1970s and 1980s, from the AFV range.
Israeli vehicle colour is a running argument among modellers because it changed more than once and photographs of it are notoriously unreliable: the same Centurion or Magach looks yellow in one image and almost grey in the next, depending on dust, sun and film stock. What settles it is working from a tone matched to the period rather than mixing toward whichever photograph is on the desk. This is the sand grey of the 1970s and 1980s, the era of the Yom Kippur War and Lebanon, and it is deliberately cooler than the earlier Israeli sand yellow.
The AFV label marks the colours AK has matched for military vehicles across different armies and periods. The 3rd Generation formula is non toxic, very highly pigmented, and airbrushes cleanly when thinned instead of clogging, while covering well by brush. The cap carries the colour.
