Warcrow Factions: Which Army Should You Start With?

Warcrow miniatures from the world of Lindwurm

Half the fun of starting Warcrow — Corvus Belli's 28mm fantasy battle game — is choosing who to fight for. The world of Lindwurm is split between proud empires, savage tribes and stranger powers, and each faction looks and plays differently. Here's a tour to help you find the army you'll love painting and commanding.

New to the game itself? Start with our Warcrow beginner's guide first, then come back here to choose a side.

Hegemony of Embersig

Disciplined, militaristic and heavily armoured, the Hegemony are the “classic army” of Warcrow — ordered ranks, drilled soldiers and reliable, straightforward tactics. If you like a force that rewards solid positioning and doesn't hinge on gimmicks, start here. The Hegemony Action Pack is the ideal first box.

Northern Tribes

Savage, resilient and relentless, the Northern Tribes want to get stuck in. They shrug off punishment and hit hard in melee, rewarding players who like to dictate the pace and close the distance fast. If your instinct is to charge, this is your army.

Sÿenann

The eerie sylvan elves of the Sÿenann are a mobile, tricksy force — ambushes, woodland magic and elegant, unusual models for players who'd rather outmanoeuvre an opponent than out-muscle them.

How to actually choose

Two honest tips. First, pick on looks — the army whose models you find most beautiful is the one you'll finish painting and keep playing. Second, think about how you like to win: grind them down (Hegemony), rush them (Northern Tribes), or outplay them (Sÿenann). The new-player battle packs, starting with Winds from the North, pair factions so you can try a couple before you commit.
